Reviews by European peers are periodically organized to ensure the implementation of the principles of this reference system and to place each institute in a logic of continuous improvement. In this context, INSEE has adopted a process-based approach. A range of tools, pooled within the Official Statistical Service (SSP), was created to describe the statistical production processes, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, assess the risks incurred, examine their documentation (metadata) or assess a particular step (analysis of user needs, data validation, etc.). The diagnoses resulting from these "quality procedures" lead to the establishment of action plans which are regularly monitored as part of "process reviews". In addition, INSEE regularly carries out satisfaction surveys on the indicators and the data it produces. The results of these surveys are available on the insee.fr website.
In addition, with regard to surveys carried out by services producing public statistics (Insee, ministerial statistical services, other related organizations such as INED, Céreq, Inserm, etc.), the Label Committee's mission is to '' examine on behalf of the National Council for Statistical Information (CNIS) all projects for which the visa provided for in article 2 of the law of June 7, 1951. The Committee has built up over time a method and case law to examine the files submitted to it. Based on considerations expressed in terms of the burden or proportionality of data collection to the objectives pursued, the Committee broadened its examination rules to cover all the dimensions of statistical quality, as formalized in the Code of good practice of the European statistics. For the SSP, the Label Committee thus constitutes a lever to ensure compliance with these principles, whether in terms of consultation, methodological quality, proportionate burden, dissemination or provision of duly documented statistical sources. .
In a more strategic register, the General Inspectorate of INSEE carries out evaluations, appraisals and audits of the work of the Institute, its operation and the organization of its services. Some of these missions relate more specifically to key INSEE processes.
