<p>The objectives of this statistical operation is to estimate:</p>
<p>- the national population by gender, age and marital status on eration 1st January of each year;<br />- the regional and departmental population by gender and age group on 1st January of each year.</p>
<p>These population estimates are mainly used to calculate different demographic indicators: birth rate, mortality rate, total period fertility, death probability, life expectancy.</p> |

<p>Cette opération a pour objectif d'estimer :</p>
<p>- la population nationale par sexe, âge et état matrimonial au 1er janvier de chaque année ;<br />- la population régionale et départementale par sexe et groupe d'âges au 1er janvier de chaque année.</p>
<p>Ces estimations de population sont notamment utilisées pour le calcul des différents indicateurs démographiques : taux de natalité, taux de mortalité, indicateur conjoncturel de fécondité, quotients de mortalité espérance de vie.</p> |

<p>Le recensement de la population sert de base aux estimations annuelles de population. Il fixe les niveaux de référence. Entre deux recensements, des estimations provisoires sont réalisées.</p>
<p>Elles deviennent définitives une fois les résultats d'un nouveau recensement connus. Après le recensement général de population de 1999, les estimations de population totale, par sexe et âge et situation matrimoniale ont été ainsi révisées sur la période allant du 1er janvier 1991 au 1er janvier 1999.</p>
<p>Les estimations de population publiées ensuite se sont basées jusqu'en 2008 sur les résultats du recensement de 1999, actualisés, chaque année, grâce aux statistiques de l'état civil (relatives aux naissances et décès) et à une estimation du solde migratoire.</p>
<p>Fin 2008, la disponibilité des résultats définitifs du nouveau recensement, relatifs au 1er janvier 2006, a conduit à réviser les estimations de population du 1er janvier 2000 et des années suivantes.</p>
<p>Désormais, chaque année de nouveaux résultats définitifs du recensement seront disponibles, ce qui modifie le calendrier des estimations.</p>
<p>Nouveau calendrier des estimations :</p>
<p>En janvier de l'année n sont publiées les estimations "arrêtées à fin n-1" :</p>
<p>- les estimations de population nationales, régionales et départementales relatives au 1er janvier de l'année n-3 sont révisées et deviennent définitives pour se caler sur les derniers résultats disponibles du recensement ;<br />- les estimations de population nationale au 1er janvier n-2 et au premier janvier n-1 sont donc révisées, mais restent provisoires ;<br />- les estimations de population régionale au 1er janvier de l'année n-2 sont révisées et restent provisoires ;<br />- les premières estimations de population nationale au 1er janvier n sont publiées, de même que les premières estimations de population départementales au 1er janvier de l'année n-2 et les premières estimations régionales au 1er janvier de l'année n-1. À cette date ces estimations sont provisoires.</p> |

<p>The population census is used as a base for annual population estimates. It sets the reference levels. Between two censuses, provisional estimates are carried out.</p>
<p>These become definitive once the results of a new census are known. After the 1999 total population census, total population estimates, by gender and age and marital status were therefore revised for the period from 1st January 1991 to 1st January 1999.</p>
<p>The population estimates published subsequently were based until 2008 on the results of the 1999 census, updated every year from civil status statistics (concerning births and deaths) and an estimate of net migration.</p>
<p>At the end of 2008, the definitive results of the new census became available, relating to 1st January 2006, and as a result, population estimates for 1st January 2000 and the following years were revised.</p>
<p>From now on, new definitive census results will be made available every year, changing the calendar of estimates.</p>
<p>New calendar of estimates:</p>
<p>In January of year n estimates "until the end of n-1" are published:</p>
<p>- national, regional and departmental population estimates relating to 1st January of the year n-3 are revised and become definitive and are than combined with the latest available results from the census;<br />- national population estimates for 1st January n-2 and 1st January n-1 are then revised, but remain provisional;<br />- regional population estimates for 1st January of year n-2 are revised and remain provisional;<br />- the first national population estimates for 1st January n are published, along with the first departmental population estimates for 1st January of year n-2 and the first regional estimates for 1st January of year n-1. At this point these estimates are provisional.</p> |
