An apprentice is a young person aged 16 to 29 (unless exception) who is preparing a diploma or a recognised title for professional purposes, under a specific type of work contract combining on-the-job training (supervised by an apprenticeship tutor) with lessons at an apprentice training centre. Derogations from age limits are possible, in case of a sequence of apprenticeship trainings, for workers with disabilities, to start or take over a business, or for top-level athletes.
