OMPHALE (methodological tool for forecasting inhabitants, labour force, housing and school students) is an application comprising a theoretical population forecasting model, demographic databases, demographic analysis techniques and future scenario construction tools. The updated version of OMPHALE (OMPHALE 2000) offers the possibility of choosing the reference period for calculating benchmark ratios, in particular net migration ratios. This possibility makes it possible to integrate the most recent population estimates as a basis for forecasting, once they have been broken down by sex and age (departmental and regional levels each year, and results of the continuous census from 2008).
